December -
One of the highlights of the year for the band is to play at the annual Christmas ceilidh in Kendal Town Hall organised by Crook Morris. It's always a great evening with lots of dancers on the floor, and entertainment for them to have a rest. This year was a sell-out a few weeks before the event, and Martyn had established a waiting list with over 30 names on it. The band had put in a lot of hard work on new arrangements, and the horns excelled themselves yet again.

The dancing well underway

Great entertainment from the Revellers, singing a selection of seasonal songs including Sheffield carols.
Crook Morris entertained with Haste to the Wedding from Adderbury, and this rapper dance with Crook managing to field two sides with Martyn acting as the Betty.

November -
The band are the brass section are busy rehearsing for the Christmas ceilidh in Kendal Town Hall on Saturday December 9th. Details can be seen on the poster below. All the tickets have now been sold, and Martyn is compiling a waiting list, so please contact him - details below - if you wish to go on the waiting list.

The Castle Green Hotel is a venue that the band know well, and the staff are always good at organising events and making us welcome. Our latest visit was for the Institute of Health & Society at Newcastle University who were holding a two day conference, and we were the after dinner entertainment. We took the opportunity to take the brass section with us and give the Tumbling Tom Big Band an outing. Great fun and lots of enthusiastic dancing made for an excellent evening.
The organiser said afterwards - Many thanks for an amazing night, it was the talk of the next day.

October -
With the holiday and festival period slowing down, the band were back in action for the 40th birthday of Chris, a member of Furness Morris, at the Ulverston Sports Club. A good evening with three floor spots including Furness Morris and two singers. Happy birthday Chris.

St Thomas's church in Kendal is a very spacious venue, and Pauline had chosen it for her party to celebrate a special birthday. Its always a privelege to help someone share a special occasion, and great dancing and lovely food made for a special evening. Happy birthday Pauline.

Right shows the dancing underway with the longways dance Riverside.
Below left shows the guests watching the candles on the cake being lit, and below right Pauline blowing out the candles.

July -
The Furness Tradition Festival based in Ulverston is close to the bands hearts (Les is one of the organisers) and we always support it in whatever way we can. Having played the Saturday evening ceilidh last year, we were pleased to be asked again for this year, and decided to bring out the Tumbling Tom Big Band. A great sound playing some new arrangements, the evening was a cracker.
See here for a camera shot video on the night of a schottische written by our drummer Les and danced to a tune written and arranged by the band.

The evenings dancing is interpsersed with concert spots on the two stages to the front and side of the main stage.

Two weeks later, the band drove over to Broughton-in-Furness to play for corporate event held by CGP, a major publishing house. A short but energetic set went down well with the employees, and afterwards Emma said Thank you for coming!  It was a brilliant ceilidh and it was great to see so many people getting involved.

April -
After an enforced layoff, the band started again with a visit to Allthwaite Community centre to help Raymond and Liz celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. Always a privelege to help people enjoy a party, the evening went very well with an excellent 'Jacobs Join' buffet.
