Annual High House Music and Walking weekend

©2007 Wizard Wheeze Promotions

When Hugh was 60, apart from all his other celebrations, he thought it would be a good idea to organise a music and walking weekend for some of his musical friends and base it at his club bunkhouse in Borrowdale called High House. The weekend was such a success that its been held every year since. This page is intended to serve as a record of the weekend, using a photo from each year showing the main walk on the Saturday, followed by the communal meal in the evening.

2006 -
The very first year was held in January, as that was the nearest available weekend to Hugh's birthday. It was very cold, and the building took a while to warm up, even with the pot bellied stove going full blast. Special guests on that first year were Richard Light on sax, and Andrew Sayer on guitar, two fine jazz players.

Playing below are: Sam, Elaine, Jackie, Zoe, Ali Prince, Tony, Hugh

The main walk on the Saturday was up Grain Ghylls and onto Allen Crags for lunch. Then along the ridge to Glaramara, and down teh ridge into Coobe Gill. It was a beautiful clear and cold day. Here are the group at the foot of Grains Ghyll. From left to right: Richard, Angie, Andrew, Hazel?, Ali Prince, Tony, Norman with his smiting stick to ensure good weather, Hugh, Sam, Elaine, Zoe, Rowan (Zoe's sister). Les took the photo.

I think this is on Dale Head, so the walk would have been to Seatoller and up through Rigg Head quarries and onto Dale Head. Then down to Honister Pass where the rain started. The route back to HH was via Seatoller Fell and down past the Wad mine.

One of my favourite walks from High House is the traverse across the face of Great Gable, so I thought I would introduce it to the group. Unfortunately, it proved rather to exciting for some. On this photo, the group look to have passed Kern Knotts and are negotiating Little Hell Gate.
